Cops said Emmanuel Akowuah, 77, was backing out of a parking spot when he inadvertently shifted the car back into drive. The vehicle then jumped a curb and rammed through the building before screeching to a halt about 10 feet inside.
Neither Akowuah nor his passenger wife was injured, but the car’s airbags did deploy, cops said Saturday.
Police stated no one inside the restaurant was injured although the building did sustain significant damage.
The identity of the lucky diner who averted potential death was not revealed, and it was unclear if Akowuah is facing charges.
In February, Oregon resident Jeremy Taylor survived for five days on Taco Bell sauce packets after his vehicle was trapped in snow in Sunriver, reported The Associated Press.
He was rescued March 1.
